About your guide
This adventure is self-guided but full support is provided by your experienced and passionate local WAM team who is a mountain bike instructor and first aid trained. Your guide will provide you with a basic mountain biking lesson (if required) before you set off along with detailed instructions of your route and pick you up at the end of the day.
This self-guided adventure is suitable for most biking abilities (we do recommend a moderate level of fitness and of course you must be able to ride a bike) and provides you with a fully supported service from your WAM! team including mountain bikes, helmet etc, special map with hidden gems and bike trails highlighted. Your journey starts by meeting your WAM! Team by the iconic 19th-century lighthouse at McCrae beach. Enjoy the white sands, clear waters and beach boxes of McCrae, and perhaps grab a coffee from Merchant & Maker (often voted the best cafe on the Peninsula). We will also provide some brief pointers in mountain biking (if required).
Once you have collected your gear for the day, set off along the stunning bay cruising the bike tracks along the beachfront to Arthurs Seat Eagle Base Station. Now it’s time for the jaw-dropping scenery, as you head to the special mountain bike entrance and take your bike on the Arthurs Seat Eagle gondola uplift to the summit. The views get better and better as the gondola rises and keep an eye out for the Melbourne city skyline in the distance. The focal point of the Mornington Peninsula, Arthurs Seat (known as Wonga to the Boon Wurrung people), rising 1000ft above sea level, the highest point of the surrounding landscape shows off jaw-dropping views, stunning forests and bushland full of wildlife, and a plethora of awesome mountain bike trails for all abilities.
Once at the summit, take your time enjoying the views before riding the short track to the mountain biking trails of Arthurs Seat State Park. Take it easy and listen out for the birdlife and watch out for the wildlife as you go! The trails meander down towards Dromana and a hub of incredible craft breweries, distilleries, cideries, and even an urban winery. Park up your bikes and head in to relax (we will pick up the bikes later) and try your included tasting paddle. We give you a choice to try tasting paddles (or equivalent drink) at Jetty Road Brewery, Jimmy Rum Distillery, Two Bays Brewery, Mr Little Cider or Rhino Tiger Bear Winery.
*We will contact you at the time of booking for which venue you choose and we will make the booking for you, you can also have lunch at any of these venues (at your own cost). Once you have tried a few of the breweries and distilleries and had lunch, your WAM! team will come and collect you (feel free to order take homes as we’ll also pick these up), and drop you back at the start or at your Mornington Peninsula accommodation.
Note: if driving please have a designated driver, who can also order non-alcoholic drinks instead of the tasting paddles.
*Please note that WAM!‘s mountain bikes are designed for enjoying the green/blue trails and not taking on any rock jumps on the blacks!
