With 8 million tons of plastic being dumped into our oceans every year, our marine life is swallowing more plastic than ever before. theotherstraw was born to do something about our plastic crisis.

The Other Straw journey started in 2018. Jamie and Len are fortunate to live by the beautiful beaches on the Mornington Peninsula in Victoria, Australia. Living there, they have seen firsthand the damaging impacts single-use plastics on our natural environments. They were fed up with the number of plastic straws polluting our local beaches and natural environments. 

Plastic straws are one of the most picked up items during beach cleanups. They take hundreds, sometimes thousands of years to actually break down.

theotherstraw serves as a symbol to everything people can do in their everyday life to live a less wasteful lifestyle.

Launched in 2018, theotherstraw focuses on replacing plastic straws with reusable, ethically-sourced bamboo straws. Since their launch, they have replaced 48,378,560 plastic straws from entering our landfills and polluting our natural environments.

The Other Straw’s mission is to make the world a more sustainable place. And this is embedded in everything they do. They offset all their business CO2 emissions and invest in regenerating empty lands and restoring forests. Their planting and offset projects are done by their partner, Carbon Neutral Australia. By 2025, and they are committed to being climate positive. The Other Straw want to take further action to catalyse more greenhouse gas reductions and removals than what the business emits. 

The Other Straw put part of their sales revenue to environmental projects to protect and restore our natural ecosystems. They are a 1% For The Planet member to further boost their support and love for our natural environments and oceans.
